One Brick at a Time

You would have heard this one before. It’s in many a quote or self-help book and that’s because it’s a good one.

I’ve got the art of get overwhelmed nailed!

I wish I could say it’s because I have such a busy job and lifestyle – that I have to juggle working full time whilst trying to care for 4 children, and keeping a house but in reality, I have it pretty easy. I work part time, have 1 child and try to spend one day a week in the pub writing. I know I’m lucky but it still doesn’t stop me allowing everything to get on top of me. The thing that gets to me the most is housework – bloody housework. Really? That’s crazy right? I know I’m not going to be on my death bed feeling thankful that I stressed so much about household chores but I can’t help it. I can’t seem to relax, enjoy time with my daughter or crack on with my writing if the house is a mess.

The one brick at a time theory has really helped me though.

Instead of fretting about ticking off the 4000 jobs you think you need to do that day – just focus on ticking off one. Then when you do that job – allow yourself to feel the win. More often than not you’ll find yourself moving onto the next task and then the next without even realising it. If not – who cares? Only you probably, so what’s the point?
